IKO Shingle Repair: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle repair in San Jose typically runs $325 to $675 installed for a standard repair area of 10 to 25 shingles, and we carry IKO-compatible colors and profiles on our trucks every day. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a shingle in the yard after a windy night, a dark water stain spreading across the bedroom ceiling, or granules collecting in the gutter like black sand. If you’re seeing any of these, the fix is straightforward and we can walk you through the price before anything gets touched.
A failed IKO shingle is not a mystery when you know what to look for. The South Bay’s summer heat bakes shingles until the adhesive strip loses its grip, then the first strong wind off the Santa Cruz Mountains peels them back like a stamp off an envelope. Add a few winters of rain and the exposed underlayment starts doing a job it was never meant to do alone. What starts as one lifted shingle can become a roofing bill that doubles in a single season. Catching it early is the difference between a repair and a much longer conversation.
Tilehurst Roofing San Jose is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with IKO, but we install and repair their shingles constantly, and we keep the common profiles and colors in stock so you are not waiting on a special order.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
We repair the full IKO asphalt shingle lineup, including the Cambridge, Dynasty, Nordic, Marathon, and Royal Estate series. Each series uses a slightly different profile and exposure, which matters more than most homeowners realize. A Cambridge shingle has a narrower cut and a different shadow line than a Dynasty, and installing the wrong match leaves a visible patch that announces itself every time you pull into the driveway.
Here is the compatibility gotcha we see most often in San Jose: IKO has updated adhesive strip placement and nail line positioning across production years, even within the same series name. A Cambridge shingle from 2015 is not identical to one made in 2024. We check the lot number and packaging date rather than guessing based on the name alone. When original packaging is gone, we measure the shingle’s exposure and match the profile against samples we carry.
The OEM versus aftermarket decision is simpler with IKO than with many other brands. We stock genuine IKO shingles whenever the color is current production, and we use them by default. For discontinued colors, we carry high-quality aftermarket equivalents that match the profile and granule blend. You will know which one applies to your roof before we start, because that is part of the written price.
Kingswell companies have been roofing since 2000, and the lesson that sticks with all of us is this: the part matters, but the install matters more. A correctly matched IKO shingle is half the repair. A straight nail line, proper overlap, and sealed edges are the other half.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Shingles in the yard after a storm. The adhesive strip has let go and wind is lifting shingles from the edges. Once the seal is broken, the shingle never reseals itself, and the next storm pulls more of it away.
- Curling corners or cupped edges. San Jose’s dry heat bakes moisture out of the asphalt and the shingle starts to curl upward at the corners. This is not cosmetic. Water gets under the curl and runs sideways into the decking.
- Granules in the gutter every time you clean it. All shingles shed some granules when new, but a consistent stream of granules after year five means the shingle’s protective surface is wearing through. The fiberglass mat underneath is exposed, and that is when the shingle starts absorbing water instead of shedding it.
- Dark streaks or stains on the ceiling below the roof. By the time water shows up inside, it has already worked through the shingle, the underlayment, and the decking. The leak is never directly above the stain, because water travels downhill along rafters and trusses before it drops.
- Lifted seams where two shingles meet. This is a nail line or adhesive failure at the butt joint, and it invites wind-driven rain straight under the shingle course. Warm air from the attic pushes up and loosens these seams further, especially on south-facing slopes that take direct afternoon sun.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In San Jose, IKO shingle repair work we perform typically falls between $325 and $675 for a contained repair area. That installed price includes the shingles, the sealant, a section of underlayment if needed, labor, and cleanup. Small areas at the lower end, larger torn sections or repairs that require decking replacement at the higher end.
What moves the number is the scope, not a surprise at the end. A straightforward swap of eight shingles on a walkable slope costs less than a repair on a steep second-story roof that needs ladder staging and a fall-protection setup. Exposed underlayment that has been soaking for a season may need replacing before new shingles go down. If the wood decking underneath has softened, that is a separate cost we discuss with you before cutting anything out.
Every repair comes with a written price before work begins. That is The Kingswell Way: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, come back if it fails. No change orders at the door. No “while we are up there” additions you never approved.
We carry material options from GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral, so the shingle on your roof is the right match, not just what is on the truck that day.
DIY or Call Us?
Here is a straight answer. You can safely do the inspection part yourself. Walk the perimeter with binoculars. Look for missing tabs, curling edges, and granule buildup in the gutters. Photograph anything suspicious from the ground. That information helps us prepare before we arrive.
What we do not recommend is getting on a roof to replace IKO shingles yourself. Roof work in San Jose means working on slopes that are steeper than they look from the ground, often on two-story homes, and the consequences of a misstep are permanent. Even on a single-story ranch, you are working at height with tools and materials in your hands. A wrong nail placement punctures the shingle below. An improper seal leaves the repair open to the next windy evening. And if you do not fix the underlying cause, you will be back on the roof again in six months.

FAQs
A properly installed IKO shingle repair on sound decking and underlayment lasts as long as the surrounding shingles, often 10 to 20 more years depending on the roof’s age and exposure. San Jose’s sun is the main variable. South-facing slopes wear faster than shaded north slopes, and we account for that when we assess the roof.
We can and do replace single shingles when the surrounding shingles are sound and the seal is intact. But if the failure is widespread, patching one spot just moves the problem. We will tell you which situation you are in before we quote. Call (669) 274-0078 for a repair assessment – estimates are free.
Most IKO shingle repairs in San Jose take two to three hours from arrival to cleanup. That includes setup, removal of the damaged shingles, inspection of the underlayment and decking, installation, sealing, and a final check before we leave.
We stock common IKO profiles and colors on our trucks, including Cambridge and Dynasty in the colors most common to San Jose neighborhoods. Discontinued or specialty colors may require a supplier run, and we will tell you that before you commit to anything.
